Macrame and Ostrich Eggs!

This past summer one of the new hobbies I was determined to learn how to do was some cool macrame! After learning the basic knots and practicing making some random small wall decorations, I decided to try making some plant holders!
I had no idea what kind of plant or pot holder I wanted to go in them though, so I didn't even know where to start.... and then along came my sister! She comes walking in with a big box full of these dinosaur looking eggs! She's done her own art projects with them in the past (apparently they are very difficult to work with) Some of the eggs had holes she already drilled into them, so we started testing out some little succulent plants (fake ones.... I cannot keep real plants alive to save my life). Once we saw how cool they looked, there was no stopping the macrame train at that point. For the next couple weeks I started making a variety of plant holders for all the different size eggs! It may have been a slight addiction there for little while....
The first one I made was definitely a struggle when it came to figuring out the best way to make the bottom part secure enough so the egg wouldn't fall out, but still leave plenty of the egg visible.

As you can see I had absolutely no idea how to do it, so I ended up doing a few messy square knots and called it a day. After that I watched quite a few videos of other people making these kinds of macrame holders so that the next one I made would look better!
The next one I wanted to be a little longer so you could see plenty of the pattern at the top, and I was excited to try out some leaf designs in there.

I did the color pattern in the middle first, then did the burnt orange ones on the side. Once I got going with the leaf designs, I kind of just went with what I thought looked good from there, I didn't use a pattern guide, I just wanted to see what I could come up with on my own. The bottom part was still a little difficult since I didn't have a hanging work area to hold up the macrame, and the eggs were each a little different so that didn't help make the process any easier! I think I made the pouch a couple different times and had to undo parts of it and adjust it until it held the egg nicely.

I definitely wanted a lot of this egg to show since it has so many cool holes in it, so I couldn't do a loose base because the egg would have had to sit further down in it in order to not fall out.
So here is how this one turned out!

The next one I did I wanted to try making a looser base like a lot of traditional macrame plant holders have. I also wanted to incorporate some beads throughout it as well.

Not quite as secure as the other one but definitely a different look and technique to it!
